What is sFUEL?

Understanding sFUEL
Contrary to the traditional gas tokens such as ETH, sFUEL is valueless and specific to each SKALE Chain, meaning it can't be transferred between different SKALE Chains. However, there is a source for sFUEL distribution on all SKALE Chains. Note that it is different from SKL, which is SKALE’s native utility token.
The use of sFUEL as a token to power transactions serves also as a vital security role. By rate-limiting transactions through sFUEL, SKALE effectively curtails the risk of potential DDoS attacks and spam transactions. If there were no mechanism to control the flow of transactions, attackers could potentially flood the network with fake transactions disrupting service for legitimate users.
How to Obtain and Transact with sFUEL on SKALE
Transacting on SKALE using sFUEL is an intuitive experience, especially for those already familiar with performing on chain transactions through a wallet. The transaction process remains largely the same—the only difference is that on SKALE, the gas is obtained for free! As long as users have sFUEL in their wallets, they will always be able to transact on SKALE AppChains.
