SKALE Basics
SKALE
A network of high-performance, gas-free Layer 1 blockchains designed to scale decentralized applications.
Built Different
SKALE is a network of Layer 1 blockchains with a gas-free invisible user experience, instant finality, high speed, and robust security. SKALE is built different as it allows for limitless scalability and has already saved its 50 Million UAW over $11 Billion in gas fees. SKALE is high-performance and cost-effective, making it ideal for compute-intensive applications like gaming, AI, SocialFi and consumer-facing dApps.
Made in the USA
SKALE was founded and is headquartered in Northern California, adhering to high standards of security, compliance, and innovation while supporting a global Web3 ecosystem.
SKALE Network Structure
SKALE Chains
High performance EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchains with zero gas fees that operate within the broader SKALE Network. SKALE Chains can be dedicated to a single high-performance dApp, or shared between dApps of similar use cases.
Hub Chains
A Hub Chain is a SKALE Chain shared by multiple decentralized applications. Hub Chains share liquidity and commonly used infrastructure across numerous projects. An example of a SKALE Hub is the Nebula Gaming Hub, home to over 50 games.
Super Nodes
A high-capacity node grouping that can run many SKALE Chains in parallel while also running key network services such as the native bridge and validator operations like bounty collection. Each SKALE supernode contains 8 nodes that dynamically rotate between SKALE chains. SKALE currently has 100 SuperNodes containing a total of 800 individual nodes.
Nodes
A node that is running within a supernode is known as a core node and directly operates SKALE Chains. Other types of nodes such as archive, full sync, and indexer nodes do not run SKALE Chains but instead are used for storing and accessing historical block and transaction data.
Node Rotation
A security feature that frequently reassigns nodes (within SuperNodes) to support different SKALE Chains based on real-time demand, preventing collusion.
Pooled Security
SKALE’s pooled security model is a unique approach that enhances decentralization and security across the network while maintaining high performance and cost efficiency. Instead of relying on individual validators for each chain, SKALE uses a randomized and rotating validator assignment system that pools security across all SKALE Chains. Users that stake SKL further support network security, and therefore share in pooled validator rewards.
SKALE Technology
Zero Gas Fees
On SKALE, users don’t pay gas fees for transactions. Instead, developers cover network costs by renting blockspace on SKALE Chains in advance, making dApps and games completely free to use—no wallets, no gas, just seamless on-chain experiences. As a result, developers can create Web2-like frontend experiences that hide blockchain technology from their users.
EVM-Compatible
SKALE Chains are fully Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible; allowing popular smart contract languages like Solidity to be used in addition to common applications and tools like MetaMask.
High Throughput
Using a fully custom implementation of the Ethereum client known as SKALEd [which is written in C++, one of the most high performance programming languages], SKALE Chains can process hundreds of transactions per second without impacting other chains within the SKALE network.
Instant Finality
On SKALE, transactions are confirmed instantly and cannot be changed or reversed. This means once you make a transaction, it’s final and immediately available—no waiting for extra confirmations or delays. This allows for seamless integration of on-chain actions within dApps.
sFUEL
A valueless gas token used on SKALE Chains, preventing spam and DDOS attacks while keeping the network fee-free for users. sFUEL is instantly added to wallets that bridge to SKALE, but can also be refilled at any time.
On-Chain File Storage
SKALE allows applications to store large amounts of data directly on-chain without extra costs.
Interchain Messaging Agent
SKALE Chains can communicate and transfer messages and assets seamlessly between SKALE Chains within the broader SKALE Network via the IMA Bridge.
SKL Token, Economics & Staking
SKL Token
SKL is the native token of SKALE, used for delegations and staking, securing the network, SKALE Chain Payments, and decentralized governance.
SKL Staking
SKL token holders can stake their tokens by delegating them to validators who help secure the network and process transactions. In return, stakers share in pooled validator rewards. You can easily stake SKL through the SKALE Portal. Compare validator rewards for staking SKL on StakingRewards.
Chain Subscription Model
Instead of per-transaction fees for users, developers pay a fixed subscription fee for blockspace to run their own Layer 1 blockchain powered by SKALE.
SKALE Use Cases
Gaming
SKALE allows developers to build blockchain-based games with instant, gas-free transactions. Players can buy, sell, and trade in-game assets [like NFTs] without worrying about high fees or slow confirmation times. SKALE’s fast finality ensures smooth gameplay for real-time interactions, leaderboards, and on-chain rewards. SKALE’s invisible nature enables games to be downloaded and played from Web2 platforms such as the Epic Games Store.
AI
AI-powered dApps on SKALE can process and store large datasets without the cost constraints of traditional blockchains. Gasfree transactions enable AI models to run inference, update on-chain data, and interact with decentralized applications seamlessly. SKALE’s storage capabilities also allow AI-driven apps to manage user-generated content efficiently.
DeFi
SKALE eliminates gas fees for DeFi applications, making swaps, staking, and lending more accessible and cost-efficient. With instant finality, users avoid slippage and get real-time pricing on trades. Liquidity pools and automated market makers (AMMs) benefit from faster execution without network congestion. See DeFi in action on SKALE on SushiSwap.
SocialFi
SKALE supports decentralized social platforms where users can post, comment, and transact without fees. Content creators can tokenize their work, set up tipping mechanisms, and run on-chain communities with seamless interactions. Gas-free smart contracts enable reward distributions and decentralized identity verification.
Other
For applications requiring speed and scalability—such as marketplaces, identity verification, DePIN, and real-time data feeds—SKALE provides a gas-free, high-throughput environment. Businesses can deploy enterprise solutions without transaction costs, enabling smooth Web3 adoption for large-scale applications that are instantly accessible to non-crypto natives.
