SIP-2: sChain Pricing Addendum Vote Passed by SKALE DAO

SKALE Network

The SKALE community has once again demonstrated its commitment to innovation and long-term sustainability. The recent vote on SIP-2: SKALE Chain Pricing Addendum has officially passed, marking another major step forward in evolving the economics of the SKALE Network.

SIP-2 builds on the foundation established by SIP-1, further refining SKALE’s unique model of chain-level pricing. By adjusting SKALE Chain pricing from $3,600 to $7,200 per month (paid in SKL tokens), this update ensures that the network continues to support validator compensation, drive high-quality chain utilization, and promote healthy ecosystem growth — all without charging end users gas fees.

Strengthening the Chain Pricing Model

In early 2024, the community voted to approve SIP-1, introducing a standardized pricing model for SKALE Chains. This shift laid the groundwork for a blockchain model where dApps pay for network resources directly, removing the burden of unpredictable gas fees from users.

SIP-2 extends and strengthens this framework. By updating the Hub Chain price to better reflect market demand and network value, SKALE can continue scaling sustainably while providing a superior experience for developers and users alike.

Key highlights of the SIP-2 update:

  • SKALE Chain Monthly Price: Increased from $3,600 to $7,200, payable in SKL tokens.
  • Other Chain Types: Pricing for other SKALE Chain types remains unchanged for now, maintaining flexibility across the network.
  • Validator and Delegator Rewards: Higher chain pricing contributes to improved rewards for validators and delegators, supporting a more robust network security model.

This adjustment ensures that SKALE’s infrastructure can expand efficiently, while maintaining its core value proposition: high performance, zero gas fees, and true scalability for Web3 applications.

Why It Matters

The passing of SIP-2 is more than just an economic update — it’s a reaffirmation of SKALE’s mission to lead the next generation of blockchain infrastructure. By continuously evolving how chains are priced, SKALE ensures:

  • Sustainable Validator Economics: Encouraging high-quality validators by providing fair and growing compensation.
  • Zero Gas Fee Model Preservation: Keeping the user experience seamless and gasless.
  • Ecosystem Health and Growth: Fostering an environment where developers can innovate freely, with predictable and transparent costs.

As SKALE continues to grow with major DeFi protocols, gaming studios, AI projects, and consumer applications, sustainable economic models like SIP-2 will ensure that the network remains scalable, secure, and developer-friendly.

Looking Ahead

The passage of SIP-2 sets the stage for exciting new developments within the SKALE ecosystem. With a stronger economic foundation, SKALE is well-positioned to expand its reach, onboard new dApps, and continue delivering the performance and user experience that the future of Web3 demands.
